  1. One interpretation:

The phoenix, symbol of rebirth and Harry Potter ;)

is your champion and friend in this dream.

The griffin is perhaps more your challenged self which has presented itself in the temple of learning (perhaps that of Hilarion over Crete in the etheric; see Mark Prophet's "The Masters and Their Retreats," Ann Ree Colton's "Watch Your Dreams") for transmutation via phoenix.  The eagle mind and the conquering king embodiment are what are symbolized by the griffin.

A similar progression might be evidenced in e.g. "The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce?", Free and Wilcock, "The Master of Lucid Dreams," Dr. Olga Kharitidi, "Man, Master of His Destiny," O. M. Aivanhov, and "Autobiography of a Yogi," Yogananda.

  2. Have you been reading or watching mythological stories lately? It sounds as if you have been occupying your mind with fantasy books or movies and this is carried over to your dreams.

  3. It looks like your life has hit a crossroads and is trying to guide you somehow

The griffin may symbolize something new in your life and the phoenix may represent you trying to ward off the "new" because it knows that it would do more harm then good to let the griffin live

but then again i dont know that much about you so i may be wrong
