I had a filling about an hour ago and they used Novocaine, When will it be ok to eat???

it was 1 hour and 15 minutes ago. I havent eaten all day and am starving. How long should I wait?

  1. I usually eat about 2 horus after any procedure. If you're starving, eat something. Just chew on the side that didn't have work done. And just be careful and don't chew like a camel.


  2. About 2 hours should be fine. However, stick to soft foods for the next 8 - 10 hours hours. Ice cream, bread, mashed veggies, cooked rice ... stay away from hard stuff like peanuts, chips, cookies, crisp fried stuff etc since you might accidentally damage the filling.

    Also have a good supply of napkins ... if the novocain hasn't worn off you might end up drooling because you will not be able to make out if your lips are closed fully or not :)

  3. Give your tongue a little nibble and see if you feel it.  If you can't, then wait or just tide yourself over with a milkshake.  I made the mistake of eating too soon and I thought my hamburger was overdone & chewy but I was actually chewing my tongue. Youch.
