  1. Yes, the Northern Irish accent and the Scottish accent do sound similar. I think Scottish accents tend to be a bit thicker though.

A great many Scots were encouraged to settle in Northern Ireland to help solidify British control of the area, so what you're hearing is likely a linguistic artifact from back then.  If they were originally Scottish immigrants way back, the accent would likely remain, although if you asked a Scotsman, he'd likely say it was not a Scottish accent at all.

  3. The simple answer is yes it does. The Northern Ireland isn't quite as musical as the Scottish accent but there are similarities!

  5. The southern Irish accent is called a Brogue.  The accent in the north is a Burr and yes it does sound a bit Scots.
