I was watching those stupid crime shows on WE last night and went to bed late...I then had a dream/nightmare that I hurt my son, it was so horrible that I literally threw up when I woke up, was crying, and went and slept in his room for the rest of the night...I can't even bring myself to repeat the awfulness of the dream....why did I dream such a horrible thing?

  1. the tv show has probably put the ideas in you head the you cannot control but you obviously will never do this as your actions tell me

  2. im sorry that u had a horrible dream. I've had horrible nightmares too... dont worry its just a dream. You probably have a very weak mind or you were very disturbed by the tv show. try reading a nice book or watching something good before sleeping.

  3. Because you fear it

  4. Conjecture.

We superimpose what we see and in dreamstate, our subconscious can play on our worst fears about our doubts and the worst fears about ourselves.

At least in waking life, when we do wake up, we realise that it is the worst case scenario played out and our logic kicks in and convinces us it was a dream.  And it then it thus assures us that we will never act out what was played out in the dream.

Your son is safe.  You know that so don't fret.  Can I say.... it was just a dream so you can relax?

  5. we cant control our dreams.. its okay, the tv shows simply put ideas in your brain.

  6. I hope it was just a dream.

  7. most likely a fear of failing as a parent. it happens to us all. as long as it isn't something you would act on, just try to move on. and be careful what you watch before you go to sleep ;)

  8. Because deep down inside you are a sicko?

  9. Weird,I had a dream last night that my mom tried to kill me.

But it is just a dream..nothing to worry about.

  10. It happens to most everyone....just relaxe you know you wouldn't do anything to him so all you can do is forget it and move on.

  11. Dreams are often related to what you are thinking about when you fall asleep.

You were probably thinking about the crime movie and what could happen  whenever you fell asleep.

Whenever you go to sleep, try not to concentrate on anything evil or bad. Perhaps listen to the radio or music before you go to sleep.  Dreams don't tell what is going to happen so don't worry. Dreams are just based on your thoughts as it occurs in the brain.

  12. When you watch TV, though you know that it is not real, your brain catalogues the experience in much the same way that it would if you actually experienced it. That is why things that you read or watch on the TV seem as real to you as your own past memories after a while and can be hard to differentiate.

In this situation, your brain stores these images. You likely empathised with the victims or the families on the show, which ads a layer of realness. When you play it over in your mind however, it is hard to visualise people that you have no connection with. So you picture people that you do have a connection with.

As frightening as it is, it doesn't mean that you want to hurt your child. It is simply your minds way of cataloguing and releasing information.

On a related note, if you are having a bad dream, do not go back to sleep in the same position, if you roll over on your other side or position yourself in a dissimilar way you generally will not fall back into the same dream.

  13. If you're a new parent, it could be from stress and depression from the sudden responsibility of the kid.

Or if the kid is just at one of those difficult stages, if you've had to punish them sometime during the day before your dream, and thought about it later, that could be why. You were sorry for being upset with the kid.

Dreaming is sort of like the mind's garbage dump. It relieves stress and useless thoughts that way.

  14. Because that's your greatest fear.....your son will be hurt....our dreams are sometimes the extensions of our fears ... or it's just the continuation of what you did and unfortunately you watch the crime shows before you sleep... so there...

  15. Maybe you recalled a time in his life where he caused you so much grief and you thought of it without noticing before you went to sleep and it contacted your brain while you were asleep just try to stay with your son for a few days and spend quality time with him.

  16. Probably just the effects of the tv show. Aww Bless you - no one ever wants to have a dream like that.

Thank god it wasn't real :)

  17. It is a common dream, so don't start thinking you're a terrible mother or person ^^

Most likely this was triggered by the television show you watched. However, if it wasn't (and there is really no way of being sure ^^) to hurt someone usually indicates that your temper / ill-attitude towards that someone may cause them harm. It may also suggest that your son has wounded emotion. Feelings that you may want to address in order to help him through a problem or worry he is dealing with that only your subconscious picked up on (which is why it is bringing it to your attention through dreams) He may greatly benefit from your love and support at this time.

It could also mean you have some pent up frustration towards your son which is much safer released in dreams rather than waking life.

It all depends on your own persona. You know yourself best

  18. Perhaps something in the show reminded you of your relationship between you and your son and how horrible it would be to lose him.  Please do talk with a licensed therapist especially since you woke up from the nightmare and got physically sick.

  19. this just means you love yoru son.

in dreaming the brain experiments with possible scenarios... your brain sensed that you were concerned about yoru son so it showed you how things would go in case something tragic like this happens to prepare you for if it really did.

because if it really did happen, you need to be on the ball and not suffering the symptoms you had when you woke up.  so your brain gave you a practice to make it less of a shock so you can act more efficiently which might be the difference between life and death.

the reason why it was you doing the hurt is that your brain wants to show you it from the point of view of the criminal so you can then realise how to best protect against criminals (e.g sort of like showing you how it is being in the criminals shoes so you can learn to recognise them beforehand and take proactive measure)

your love for your son was so strong, that your brain overcame the usual veto aganst disgusting you and showed you everything unedited and uncensored.

this is often the way with brains, its why sometimes you get the answer to a problem after you sleep on it.

your son is very lucky to have you as a parent.

  20. If theres anything I've learned from my dreams its they ussually mean nothing even the most horrible. Our mind mixes thoughts up and we end up with somethings which are so wiered they just dont make sense.

Unless you know the dreams mean something because that what youve been thinking about all day, then its your mind trying to fix the problems we faced in the day but are usually still mixed up with other thoughts, these can also be your greatest fears and hopes.

So you could of dreamt about injuring your son because that is your greatest fear, your son being injured by his own parent.

Dont think anything of it, if it happens again it might be something else wrong with your mind but i think its just mixed up thoughts.
