I had a large part of fence that fell in a storm. Does the insurance claim cover the whole fence?

The fence is older and we tried to find the same fencing before. I don't want to put just one section of a different kind of fence.

  1. I doubt it. Is your deductible low enough that you can claim on your insurance to begin with?

  2. No, they aren't going to cover the whole fence.  In fact, if they send someone out to look at it and that person finds that the fence was old and weak, they might not pay for any of it, since old weak fences tend to fall down in a high wind.

If they do pay for the part that fell down, that's all they will pay for, since that's the only part that is damaged.

  3. It depends on how your policy is written.  The standard policy will just replace the damaged sections, with as close as you can find.

  4. Talk to your insurance company.  No one here knows.

  5. Unfortunately even if the damage meets your deductible they will depreciate the fence and give you only actual cash value for what the damaged part of the fence is worth.  They will not pay for you to get a brand new fence-even only the part that was broken.  Honestly its probably not worth filing a claim.  If you file, even if they dont pay out it will more than likely effect your premiums in the future.  If you have a claims free discount that will go away as well.  Sorry :(
