I had a little bladder leak, is this normal?

I was out running this morning, and drank lots of water. So I got home and decided to take a soak in the tub, and about a second after being in the water, I accidently peed in the water. should I be worried? has this ever happened to anyone else?

  1. Yes.  You are clearly a platypus.

  2. Very normal, I've actually had something similar happen many times when jumping in the shower or bath after a long run.  Running puts strain on the pelvic floor muscles (which help support the bladder) so that you might not feel the urge to go as strongly as you normally would.  Add that to the fact that the water you drank for your run probably filled your bladder close to the brimming point (it can happen very easily if you're a serious runner who is trying to keep yourself well hydrated!), and your body hitting the water probably caused a reflex contraction in your bladder muscles, which given the other circumstances was too much to overcome.

The easiest solution is just to make yourself pee after your run before getting in the shower... if you can remember!  It's not really a big deal though, and certainly not an indication of a bladder problem or any other threat to your health.

  3. It may not be normal but it's certainly common.  Just go pee before you get in the bath.  No biggie.

  4. Seems like you needed the toilet so much you couldnt feel it, and with sitting down in the pee position lol it just came out. therefore completely normal

  5. It may have just been that you drank so much water and didn't give yourself time to go to the bathroom.

  6. yeah it has happened to me before. it depends on how much water you drank. if you drank too much then it makes sense your bladder can't control it as easy as if you had less to drink. its not something to worry about unless it happens consistently. yeah it has happened to me. dont worry. it happens once in awhile to me. when your muscles relaxed in the warm bath you just lost control for a second thats all

  7. Well, incontinence (the involuntary leakage of urine) is very common among women.  Most recent studies have suggested that between 15% and 25% of all women under 30 years of age have some degree of regular incontinence.  The number is even higher among elite athletes (for example, 60% of elite gymnasts surveyed reported incontinence during competition).

Most of these young women have sress incontinence (meaning that they leak urine during exercise or while laughing, etc.).  What you're describing is a little different.  The sound of the water running and the feel of the water on your skin can cause a reflex emptying of the bladder in many people.

The bottom line it that it's no big deal, it's very common, and it isn't likely to become a problem for you.
