I had a medical abortion 4 weeks ago and I'm still bleeding!!!!?

I had the medical abortion done on July 4th and I am still bleeding almost 4 weeks later on July 30th. I had my follow up the week after and they said everything was fine just some tissue that still has to come out and that I could start my birth control Sunday (July 13th). My bleeding wasn't very heavily after the first week so I stopped using pads and started back with tampons after my follow up and after I started BC. Could this be why I'm still bleeding? Is something wrong with me? My only concern is that its the 4th week and I'm still bleeding, sometimes heavy, sometimes light. PLEASE, SOMEONE HELP ME OUT!

  1. Calm down, it's normal to bleed for at least 6 weeks.

  2. They told me upto 8 weeks was expected in all types of abortions...Hope this helps

PEOPLE BACK OFF HER!!! People make mistakes like everyone here has not had a unplanned child. Some people just know they can not afford or care for one at the time. <3

  3. Sounds like an infection ..i would see your GP

  4. I would go and see a doctor.

  5. You should call your dr about it, they will probably want to check to see if anything is wrong.

  6. Hunny, I'm sorry for all the nasty answers you got on here...

You NEED to contact the clinic that prescribed you for the medical abortion or contact your doctor and explain the situation immediately. While bleeding can occur up to 6 weeks later if you're bleeding for more than 2 weeks then you need to contact a doctor.

*And I agree with ladyscientist... anyone posting nasty comments and NOT answering the question will be reported. You have no right to force your opinions on this young lady*

  7. Call the doctor at the abortion clinic you used.

    good luck.

*edit*  To all those who chastised this woman but failed to ANSWER the question, you've been reported.  If you aren't going to answer the question asked, why bother?

  8. It's okay to be bleeding up  to 6 weeks, as long as it is not severe bleeding that requires a pad every hour, good chances are that you DO NOT have an infection, it is just tissue that needs to come out, its not big or anything but its still there. Don't worry too much, I understand it's really annoying to be bleeding for over 4 weeks, I've been there. But it will pass. Drink water and make sure you're eating well. Feel better.

  9. Hi there,

I'm a third year medical student and I just read your post.  You need to go see your physician ASAP.  Since you've been bleeding for so long, there's a chance that you could be retaining products of conception.  Retained tissue is an uncommon complication of pregnancy termination but it could be the cause of your bleeding.  If you bleed for too long, you will lose all of the clotting factors that your body naturally produces which is a very dangerous situation.  I sincerely urge you to go to your physician or emergency room TODAY. Don't make an appointment. Just go.

  10. Depends how far you were, but normally after a pregnancy a woman can bleed anywhere from a week to 8 weeks with the average being 6 weeks.  When you are under 12 weeks usually the flow is averaging about 2 weeks.
