Question:

I had a miscarriage, could it have also been my period?

I found out on August 6th that I was pregnant, because I took an early test and it was positive. Then on August 11th (the actual day my period was due) I started bleeding heavily. After some lab work was done it said that I had had an early miscarriage (at 5 weeks). My question is, since I started bleeding the day my period was supposed to come and it only lasted 5 days like my regular period, could this have also been my period or is it just a coincidence? Just curious since it was such an early miscarriage... just trying to figure out when I will ovulate again.

  1. Just a coincidence.  Your body wouldn't release an egg while you're pregnant, so no, that was not also your period.  Your cycle may be off for a little bit.  It took my cousin 7 weeks to get a period after she miscarried.

  2. consult your doctor

  3. Today we have a wide selection of "early detection" tests.  This allows us to know at a very early stage that we are pregnant, it also unfortunately allows us to know about a miscarriage that we would have assumed was a period.  It sounds like you were in fact pregnant and had a very early miscarriage, the fact that you started bleeding on the date your period was expected is a coincidence.  I am sorry for your loss....because it was a loss all the same.
