Everyone I've spoken to is surprised that he survived as back then a foetus wasn't viable until 28 weeks.

He's healthy, married and in the defence force now.

Is there anyone else out there who had a bub that premmy, that long ago? And if so, how are they going?

  1. My grandmother told me about my great-grandmother giving birth in the 40's to a baby who weighed around 1 1/2 pounds.  The baby survived over a month, however, it was the dead of winter, and the baby got sick, and got cold and passed on.  The fact that back then, at home that a baby lasted that long.  There's no doubt that if she'd been born now, that she would have lived.

  2. I have a friend who was telling me she had a child at 27 weeks over 20 years ago. He is doing wonderful today with no complications.

    He weighed 1lb 10 oz

the interesting part is the mother got a pregnant again a few years later and was able to carry that baby to term and she weighed  10 lbs  1 oz!
