The well continues to flow for five years, and at ALL times there is an oil slick on the water that lays in a pool by the well, is there oil to be found by drilling deeper? oil has been coming up since the well was drilled.

  1. Your well hit a small shale sand which is filled mostly with water.  However, there also seems to be methane (natural gas) in the reservoir. the pent-up pressure of the natural gas is pushing the water and a small amount of hydrocarbons up to the surface thru the bore of the well you drilled.  Your situation is not unusual.

    Is there oil deeper ?

Maybe, maybe not.  A geological survey or drilling is the only way to find out.  I suggest you check with any Oil and Gas EXPLORATION company operating in your area.  They can probably tell you in a flash if there are KNOWN sands in your specific area that are capable of producing hydrocarbons in commercial quantities.

Texian who has been there, done that.
