I had back surgery, now have a foot with numbness on the top of my foot, big toe to the ankle. Any help?

  1. One would assume you had a problem with the disc between L5 and S1, and the nerve damage is a consequence of either the original problem or the surgery which was done in hopes of preventing it. Sometimes things don't work out as expected.


  2. It could be nerve damage from the surgery.  I would definitely mention it to your doctor and see what he/she says.

    Sometimes  this numbness is from surgery. But are these the only symptoms you are experiencing- are there any other problems.  Be sure and let the Dr know. if your ankle shows weakness, you can get an or orthotic if you end up with your foot dropping or twisting.

    (if you would like to know more about "after surgery"  I had woken up from surgery with numbness from the waist down..and stayed in hospita for a month learning to walk all over  again...
