I had dmv do a title search on a car i bought with no title would thay tell me if if was stolen?

Thay said it had a bank lean for 2500 on it but i bought it for parts then sold the body and engine. was wondering if thay would have told me. and is legal to strip a car for parts that has a lean?

It's illegal to strip parts from a car you don't own.  If you bought it without a title, you didn't own it.  

Likely, the bank foreclosed on it, and the guy who owned it, sold it illegally, for quick parts money.

The bank can come after you for the whole value of the car.  And you can go to jail.
