Had the Mirena Coil fitted to help reduce the length of time I was bleeding for, but have had it in since Dec 07 and the shortest time I had a period was 10 days. Most months its an average of 16-17 days. Should it be taking this long to settle?

  1. It can take a while for a coil to settle. But in the worst case scenario it may have moved slightly, bursting a blood vessel however this is very common. Visit your doctor for a check up if you are worried. It's always better to be safe than sorry although a burst blood vessel isn't much to worry about.

  2. I also had the Merina coil fitted and my periods still last a long time,I dont like the fact that you can really feel the strings aswell. If I were you I would go back to the Doctor and discuss about having a different coil.

  3. you can be on the pill as well or have hormones to stop bleeding. i personally was sick of constant bleeding and mirena isnt the wonderdrug they say it is. I felt sick and was spotty and asked for it to get taken out after 2 mths! God that is a dreadful thing, bleeding all that time....mine lasted constantly too. Ask for it out!

  4. Hi, I am due to have the mirena coil fitted on Sept 4th and I just can't wait cos my periods are so so so heavy

  5. I got mine about a month before you.  The first month or two I bleed almost every day, usually very light and nly during the day.  Then I had a regular period that was pretty light , then i spotted lightly for another week and didnt have another period for 2 months.  then the same thing on for a week, spot for an other then no period for 2 months.  My doc gave me bc pills to take for a month and he says this will help me not to have any breakthru bleeding, as they call it.  I have noticed that my periods have been very very light.  I used to have a pretty heavey one that lasted about 3-4 days now they are very light and last about a week, then a week of spotting.  For me the pros out way the cons, cause I havent gone completly crazy like I do when I take bc pills or even on the nuva ring.  The bleeding does suck, but when I spot it is only during the day, yea wierd, so i just deal with it.  I havent tried the pills yet cause I cant stand the side effects from them.  ask your doc.  The info I have on it says that it can take up to a year before you dont have a period

  6. I had the merina coil for a year and my system never settled.  in the end the doctor took it out as it just didn't suit me.  i went on the mini pill in the end, cerazette, which stopped everything!
