I have some very important pictures on a 2gig sandisk SD card. I left in my pocket all day with my keys. When I got home I put it in my card reader and it wouldn't read it, so I tried putting it in my camera (Panasonic Lumix TZ5) and it won't even turn on with it in there. Is there anyway to make it work again. Is it possible to clean it or something I can do? Thanks

  1. You've probably lost the information on it.

The only thing I can suggest trying is taking a q-tip with alcohol and water mix on it and cleaning the contacts for the card.  I doubt it'll help, but as long as you only get the q-tip damp and don't slop liquid onto the card, it won't hurt.

When dealing with things like this, you should always have a little case for your cards when they're not safely inside your camera.

You might want to to take it to a computer repair place and see if they can do something with it if the pictures are that important.

  2. No, it is already corrupted,

  3. I seems that the contacts may have been damaged by your keys ... or maybe they are just dirty ... look closely at them and see if there are scratches or some crud on them.  If just dirty, gently clean them and try again.  All memory cards but the CF cards have exposed contacts, so you will want to carry them in some kind of case in the future to protect them.

If after you have "cleaned" the contacts, the card still cannot be read, you may have to buy a new one ... Hopefully you have copied the image files to your computer recently and can try formatting the card in your camera using the format feature.
