I had my first appt. at 12 weeks he checked my breast did a pap smear gave me slips for an ultrasound?

and blood work , but no urine test , measuring my stomach or listen for a heartbeat, no list of what not to do or anything like that is this odd ? he did have to cancel all appts after me because someone was in labor but he didn't seem rushed at all he talked to me for a bit then after we were done he talked w/ me and the receptionist

The doctor does not do the blood work, you go to the lab for that.  Urine test, it's not as important to get it done in the first trimester, so next appt, you will start those constant cup peeing days.  It's too early to hear the heart beat.  Your uterus is still below in your pelvis so there is nothing to feel in your stomache area yet.  What he did was not odd at all.  The first appointment is usually just to make sure the mothers health is okay, its not really focused on the baby.  They dont really give you a list unless you ask for one or if you have any questions.  If it seems like the doctor isn't doing something you think they should, or they say something you dont understand or your curious about something, ALWAYS ASK.  Dont be afraid.  They wont belittle you for not knowing or anything.  

He didnt rush after your appointment because labor is a long process.  Maybe the woman was only at 6 cm or so.  With all these tv shows, labor always seems like you need to rush and hurry everywhere but you dont.

On my first appointment at 10 weeks, I was given a sonogram and that was it.  There isn't anything to measure yet, and the heart beat is only recognized by a sonogram at this point.  Your appointments will get more interesting, don't worry.  Hopefully he did at least tell you about taking pre-natals?

ok i went thru 3 doctors before i realized i liked mine. if u dont connect with ur dr i would change. i had a mean dr then a stupid one who could have killed my baby by putting me on the wrong meds.u can always switch dr.

I didn't get measured until about my 16 or 20 week appointment. The blood work and the urine test come together. When they assign pregnancy tests, urine tests is in that. Its not really odd to me. You should be educating yourself as well.

i did everything you did, but i also do a urine sample for every time i go in the doctor's office. i had an orientation a couple weeks before my actual appointment, about what foods to aviod and what to eat, what kind of excerises are healthy to do, etc.... i don't know what that one girl says it is pointless to hear a heart beat at 12 weeks? that's when you will be able to hear it! i heard mine at 12 weeks too, it was amazing!

At 12 weeks there'd be no heartbeat to hear and not much point in measuring your tummy so don't worry there. No idea why he didnt do your blood work though-and a pap smear now seems pointless as the pregnancy hormones affect the results. Also, I never had my b*****s checked during any of my pregnancies... I'd suggest making another appointment or perhaps giving the doctor a ring after your ultra sound-unless he plans on doing your blood work after the ultra sound? Perhaps he wants to check the dates first?

It sounds like you were rushed but he didn't want you to feel that way. Usually you talk to a nurse about your history, she would prescribe vitamins, etc...You would also give a urine sample, listen for a heartbeat with your doctor. They won't measure your stomach this early though. My ob schedules two separate appointments, one for the doctor and one for a nurse/ultrasound. They might do everything else at your ultrasound visit. I would just ask when you go to that appointment.
