I ate at Outback tonight and ordered a dish that had beef. I asked for it well done. It came out dripping with blood. I very nicely asked to have it cooked longer. I am never rude to people in the service industry. I've worked in retail and can't stand jerks. I was very pleasant about it. They apologized, I said it was no big deal... got my meat back and ate it. I tipped the waiter well and thanked him again. So I got home and had diarrhea. Would the cooks do something gross to my food even though I was super nice????

  1. no, i highly doubt it.

i work in the food business as a waitress, and the cooks are really nice as long as you are nice in return. plus, it was the waiter that you asked to have the meat cooked longer for, not the cook directly.

    i'm sure you're fine.

  2. hard to prove but in the uk if you cause food poisoning and people are harmed or even killed then it is a criminal offence. This even covers things like poor cleaning practices. I would report the fact that you were ill to the restuarant manager and mention how helpful the staff were, they may not realise and have a contamination problem with their supplies. They should keep daily food samples that health and safety can check. Food poisoning is often caused by less obvious things for example one of the most dangerous is rice that has been reheated or kept warm.

  3. I sincerely doubt the cooks would have done anything to your food. Big chains like that do not want to have lawsuits filed against them, hence they have very strict rules regarding the handling of their products and dedicated managers that watch very closely. I'm sure they just threw it back on the grill for a few more minutes and sent it back out to you as asked. I hope you feel better quick!

  4. I dout it there. I go there often probably your brain working overtime thinking about sending it back. Now if it was fast food I would say ya.

  5. i highly doubt they would have done something to your food...especially when you asked for it to be well done and it wasn't! i work in a restaurant, and sometimes this happens with steaks, or other food where it needs to be cooked longer and i just take it back and see them put it on the grill and replate it...

AND you were nice about it, so why would they mess with your food...

  6. Yes.. they would.. and they do... about 17% of the time... where do you fit in this..?? Right .. i don't know either..

  7. Actually, contrary to the popular opinion around here, it is quite possible. I have known more than a few cooks that absolutely hated for any food they cooked to be sent back.

  8. No not if you were nice

  9. I am always leary about sending food back, but hopefully they would not do anything like that?

  10. probably not, but that's not guaranteed.

  11. As a certified chef, this question always bothers me. Cooking is what I do. I do it very well. Why would I want to ruin the thing I do better than most people? How could I be proud to send something out that I screwed up? Like a pianist deliberately hitting the wrong notes just because he doesn't like someone in his audience. Absurd.

  12. Having worked in hotels and restaurants as a waiter I know that chefs can be annoyed whenever somebody makes a complaint but on the whole if they can accept that it is THEIR fault, i.e if beef was ordered well done but was still bloody, then they don't tend to blame the customer. In my experience (almost ten years worth) no chef to my knowledge has ever tampered with a customer's food so I don't believe that that happened to you. However if you do feel that you suffered food poisoning, then you should report it to the Environmental Health. The next time, someone could be seriously ill.
