Question:

I had my navel pierced in 2000, removed in 2006. It hadn't closed, so I pushed a barbell through. Is this safe?

I originally removed it because I thought it was migrating, but wasn't sure and didn't want to take the risk. Tonight I was laying there looking at the holes and noticed they still weren't completely closed, so I cleaned off my old barbell with some alcohol and tried to push it through, and it went through. Now I'm a little nervous that it might get infected or worse. Any suggestions?

  1. DONT PUT ALCOHOL ON IT! Use a anti-bacterial soap with NO fragrance! You aren't going to die or anything absurd like that. You should be okay. But Alcohol kills ALL bacteria. You need certain bacteria in your body to stay healthy. If that makes any sense? So killing all of it is not completely necessary. But its not going to hurt you at all!

  2. clean it like its new and be sure to take care of it. It should be fine. If a piercing is healed then there will always be a hole there because once its healed around a barbell there is no way for the skin to reattach once the barbell is removed. It should be completely fine as it was before as the only thing that may have happened is you may have scraped it when pushing through the barbell but again cleaning it should take care of that.

  3. Should be fine, use Spectro Gel to keep it clean...
