However, I noticed my temp gauge occassionally still runs a little hot, it goes up to hot for a few seconds then comes back down to normal. Does this mean something else is wrong now or is this normal?

I have a 1991 Acura Legend by the way.

  1. it,s ok! they all get alot hotter until the thermostat opens. as long as it don,t get hot and stay there, your ok.

  2. what is the number show on the radiator cap? must get the same number with the old one. normally car temp do not go to the Hot Zone. maybe your sensor is faulty

  3. You may want to replace your thermostat but it sounds like normal operation of it opening and closing.

  4. It's not normal for any vehicle to occassionally run a little hot. Sounds like the problem was not diagnosed properly. I would get it back to that shop and politely tell them it's still getting hot and ask them to re-check their work. You definately have something else wrong so get it checked asap.

  5. This normal because the thermostat still close and when your car heats up then this thermostat opens up to circulate the coolant. You will notice this when you start it in the morning or during winter time.

  6. It's possible that your gauge may be faulty. I have had this problem myself. A good garage can check the actual temp and compare it to the reading your gauge is giving. If the gauge is correct I suspect the thermostat is faulty. This is an inexpensive item and can be replaced on most cars by anyone with the slightest mechanical aptitude.
