I have a new Ford Edge that I've only had 5 months and one day when backing out of a parking spot, I shifted into Drive and heard a loud "clunk" noise, tried to take off but the car wouldn't go over 10mph and sounded like it was revving up like in Neutral. We tried taking off down the road, luckily we hadn't got to the highway yet, so we turned around and stopped, turned it off and then restarted it and it worked fine. It had the wrench lite come on and there was a code on the dash where the electronic odometer is, didn't catch what it showed but it looked like POS or something close to that. I called the dealer, the recommended bringing it in, and seeing what code came up. I took it in, they said it was some type of Shaft sensor? I think. They ordered a new one, put it in and when I got in the car, the gear shift handle seemed lax in switching between park, neutral and drive gears. Was too smooth with no seperation between them, I can move it without pushing in the button. Also, twice when I've tried to start it, it won't start, so I had to jiggle the brake pedal and the gear shift handle a couple times then it started. I have to take it back in next week to see what's wrong with that, but wondering if this is something that will keep happening or they just screwed up putting the gear shift handle back together wrong? Does anyone have any helpful comments on this??? Thanks a bunch! I love my Edge and don't want to have to return it when the lease is up! I hope it's not a "Ford" thing!

  1. probably they screwed up when they replaced the sensor and the kickdown cable is not properly adjusted, as well as the shifter.

  2. there is an input shaft and an output shaft sensor nether one would cause a starting problem the neutral safety switch would
