I was wondering if i could still major in law enforcement and be a cop if i had gotten charged with M.I.P when i was 17 [a year ago]. Will that affect me in any way?

  1. no that by law will not affect their decision..they will see that u were charged with it,, but it can not be a deciding factor on a hire or not hire.. it can just be viewed basically just not decided on

  2. The way i was told is that anything on your Juvie record gets filed away somewhere, and when you turn 18 you start with a whole new slate, so i think that they cant use your juvie record against you. but im not really too sure if it will affect you getting a job in law enoforcement.

    GOOD LUCK

  3. what the h**l's a MIP ?

  4. (Minor in Possession). There are worse things that you could have been charged with. If you are still pursuing law enforcement as a career, then this shouldn't stop you but it would be a great idea to keep your nose clean and your background trouble free. And don't think that because juvenile records are sealed that police are unable to look at them. If you apply for law enforcement, then can look anywhere they want to....and will.

  5. No.  They will look at your background and ask you questions about the incident.  Just be honest.  They are more interested in your answer than the MIP.

  6. In most places, this is a relatively minor charge.  As long as you don't try to hide it, and your record is otherwise clean, you should be OK.  If you needed a spotless record to be an officer, there would be a shortage of officers.
