I can see far out alright, but need correction for reading, computer and little further out distance. I couldn't get used to progressive lens. I was tripping, falling, my eyes watered and got terrible headaches. I gave up after ten days of misery. Now I use three separate combinations of bifocals for reading/computer, reading/little further distance, reading/long distance. Never mind the looks and the chain hanging down the sides of my face, it is not very convenient to carry three pairs of glasses with me all the time. There must be lot of people out there with similar vision correction requirements as I have and really like to hear their experiences and how they manage. Progressive lens are not cheap and it seems a gamble to keep trying till one finds the lens that suit. And what happens when the prescription changes? Go through this all over again? How easy or difficult it is to switch back and forth between progressives and bi or trifocals? Appreciate your responses.

  1. The easiest way to address this is to just get trifocals. Get the 35mm trifocals. That way you'll have distance on the top, reading at the bottom, and computer distance in the center.

Take your bifocals and hold them up in front of you. Move them back and forth. What you'll see is that the image of whatever out there moves a little faster in the lower part than the upper part, or the other way around.

When you put on progressive lenses and then move your head, the bottom seems to move faster than the top in a progressive way. So your brain says you are spinning! and it makes you 'dizzy'. Takes about a month to get over that feeling as your brain learns that you're not 'really' rotating your body. But it's a long month.

The trifocals will have a similar initial learning curve but no where near as 'fun'.

Sounds like you are farsighted. You'll LOVE trifocals. Just get them, give them a chance, and you'll only need TWO pairs...one for normal, and the other a pair of dark ones for outside. Works great.
