I had the same glasses made twice, same prescription, but different lens thickness...?

I had progressives made at costco which were only temporary. I just asked for the cheapest lens they had, no add ons. Then I had another pair with the same prescription made at lenscrafters. Again I asked for the cheapest, no add ons. The lenscrafters ones are about 10% thicker. What is up with that?

  1. Probably just a difference in how they were ground.

1 Lab may have ground them to a 1.2 mm center and the other to a 1.4 center...or something similar...so that would slightly increase the overall thickness.

If there is a difference in your frame sizes, that could also affect the thickness...a wider frame will add more edge thickness....if they are minus power lenses...

  2. different brands of lenses come in diff thicknesses.
