I had to pay an extra $119 for baggage. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS?

I flew De!ta last week. Before my flight I saw a notice that they had changed their restrictions for baggage. I called but was not given a definitive answer so I packed 1 suitcase for checked luggage.

At check in they charged me $119 for excess weight, I wanted to put heavy items in my carry on but the woman said the heavy items were liquids and did not provide me with an option to check my carry on.

When I arrived in Miami, I realized the fee of $119 was for only 1 flight. They tried to charge it again for my connecting flights BUT informed me that my carry on bag could be checked so I then checked 2 items and redistributed the weight so both checked item were within the limits, no excess fee.

I feel it was an error made at the 1st check in and feel De!ta should reverse a charge because all 3 of my flights that day I had the same number of peices with the same totalweight. It was De!ta's error to not inform me I was entitled to 2 checked pieces for Int travel. Do you agree?

  1. Horrible!

  2. This has been on the news allot. I think it horrible but the airlines have to do what they can to keep up with the high gas prices.

  3. I would carry less.

  4. Thats insane.

  5. What do I think... I think you must NEVER WATCH THE NEWS... because this baggage surcharge has been ALL OVER THE NEWS for almost A MONTH.  So if you didn't know about it... the fault was YOURS because the airlines and the news agencies have been warning people about this surcharge since the FIRST OF MAY.

  6. Its disgusting, Ryanair want to charge me £211 for changing flight dates by a month when the flights are only worth  Ã‚£167...They wud charge us for farting if they could.

  7. I heard they were limiting the baggage weight per customer due to the increase of gas prices. I could imagine aircraft fuel prices affected more since it has more taxes on it. but $119 you were charged seemed like someone taking advantage of the new ruling.

  8. One of the other answers is correct that this has been in the news.  Also, if you book your ticket on line and fail to tell them how many bags will be checked, you get hit with another charge.  Pays to read, read, read if you are going to travel.  I understand your outrage at Delta, and I agree you should have been given a chance to redistribute the weight, but there again, they probably feel you have had adequate opportunity to learn the new rules.  They have to do something to help offset the exorbitant fuel prices.  We aren't the only ones hurting at the pump.
