The on-loan Bayer Leverkusen defender reveals that he had to beg his Tottenham Hotspur manager for a move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 this winter.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vedran-Corluka-c35947 has confirmed that it wasn’t easy for him after Bayer Leverkusen agreed to sign him on loan during the recently concluded January transfer window.
He stated that his Spurs manager, Harry Redknapp, never wanted him to leave during the winter, as the London club do not have cover for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kyle-Walker-c21566 on the right side of defence. His departure saw the club sign Blackburn defender
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Nelsen-c31992 on a free transfer to add depth to the squad.
The Croatian international mentioned that he was desperate to make this move in order to experience regular first team action ahead of the European Championships to be held later this year. The defender admitted that the lack of
regular first-team opportunities forced him to make the decision.
While talking to a Croatian paper, Vecernji List, the former Manchester City sweeper further added:
“When I told him that I had the chance to move to Germany, Harry did not even want to hear about it. He told me that he still needed me and said I was important to him, like all the other players.”
Further commenting on his move to Leverkusen, Corluka insisted that he had to plead with his manager to grant him a way out as this was the only chance for him to impress his national team manager before the selection of Croatian
squad for the upcoming European championships.
“The day before leaving Spurs I called him and I even begged him to let me go, as that was the only chance for me and my chances to be at Euro 2012. And after that talk, he softened up and said that I could leave Tottenham,” Corluka
concluded.
Corluka made his Bundesliga debut against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfB-Stuttgart-c40879 on Saturday, February 04, at the BayArena with the match ending all square at 2-2. The 26-year-old lasted throughout the 90 minutes, giving a decent account of his fitness.
