  1. I personally thought it was amazing.

I love the charecters of Jane and Mr. Darcy.

The old BBC movie is also REALLY good and long. lol.

  2. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite novel of all time. I love it and have read it innumerable times.

Pride and Prejudice is a beautiful story. Jane Austen was a master of witty and pithy prose and had a thorough knowledge of human nature. If you want to watch a movie based on Pride and Prejudice, I'd recommend the 1995 A&E version with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth or the 1980 BBC version with Elizabeth Garvie. Both are very good.

(It is wrong to say that Jane was depressed over Tom Lefroy. That was, at best, puppy love. I have read biographies about Jane, as well as the letters that escaped Cassandra's destruction. Jane Austen was also proposed to by Harris Bigg-Wither and she accepted his marriage proposal. The next day, she changed her mind and rejected him, because she didn't love him. In biographies of Jane Austen, you read about a mystery man, later in her life, with whom she was in love and by whom she was loved. The general belief was that the man died before they could be married, just as Cassandra's fiance died before they married.)

  3. Jane Austen is the favorite of many people, and Pride and Prejudice is a beauty from her.

You can read the whole of Austen's books at:

    - Check out the "Austen, Jane" page there. You also find Emma, Lady Susan and so on.

  4. I think it's wonderful. It's a classic and many people, especially females, love it. The only downfall is the long description Austen tends to have. A small scene will seem to drag on for pages, and while some aren't bad, there are some that were killer.

If you want to watch a move afterward to compare, there's a five hour A&E version that's pretty close to the novel. Plus Colin Firth stars as Darcy. Does it get any better?

  5. I've tried to read it a number of times, but haven't really gotten through the whole book before. I'm just not patient enough, and I really wish that I could read it through. Everyone thinks it's great, yet I can't even get through it! I tried to read 'Emma' too, but couldn't get through that either. I'm just not patient enough. I might give it another go though...

  6. I think that it is overrated and sappy. Most people's lives don't work this way. Jane Austen was depressed over being left lonely by Thomas Lefroy. She lived as a spinster and never broke that mold. Read the book knowing that one bitter lassie wrote them.

  7. I love this book, it became one of my favorites. After reading it I saw the movie... and it's also awesome!

  8. I liked the book and since the book has prevailed as required reading for many many years I guess teachers must like the book
