I hate CSS!!!!! Help me fix my webpage because I'm retarded.?

Question

I swear css will be the death of me. What am doing wrong? I don't get this whole position is relative. How do I get my 3 div's to go next to each other? I need the pink box to be on the left, the broken image to go right next to it and the text, "I hate CSS" to go next to that.

Also in Mozilla, my pink box is on top of my Home, About ... links. What am I doing wrong?

You have to float them all left using float: left;

Namely: .left_menu and .writing_main_body
