So I have been having an anxiety/panic attack almost every night, and my goodness it's painful! I can't figure out how to conquer it. So if any of you have ever had it please share your story, and how you coped with it. It would be greatly appreciated, since I'm in my own personal h**l.

  1. Hi,

If you feel a panic attack or feelings of anxiety creeping up on you then try this word repetition technique that I learned that helps me to quickly 'snap out' of my panic attacks:

I simply repeat the words 'cream cake' over and over in my head as quickly as I can without stopping.    You could use any word or words you like really but that's what I chose (because I like cream cakes).  It apparently works because it doesn't give your brain time to process the panicky thoughts and so helps you to relax again.  Seems strange I know ... but it works for me!

There's also a free ebook that I found really useful called 'Get Rid of Panic and Anxiety for Good'. If you want to take a look you can find it at: http://curepanicattacks.premiergold.info...    Even though I got it for free it has helped me absolutely loads!

  2. Wow, are you hitting my feelings...

I am in the midst of an anxiety attack and can't seem to break out of it.

I have received a job offer on 8/13 and the formal letter on 8/14 for a job beginning 9/8.  I was told by HR that if I didn't hear anything from them, that the background check they were doing was okay.  That's a bit unnerving, especially for us with OCD!!!  The HR gal did say that she would send out an email 1-2 days before the start date with confirmation of what she told me during the offer; start date/time, entrance, whichshe disclosed to me with the offer.  I guess her feeling is that you will feel better if you have the official nod to come in on the start date.  Well, Monday is 9/8, I haven't heard anything nor have I received that email.  I called her at 11 am this morning (EST) and left a message...she hasn't called me back and its driving me nuts.  I feel like I can't breathe...I can't focus on anything else...  I take the phone with me into the bathroom, in the basement to do the laundry...its crazy!!

I'm right there with you... this sucks, doesn't it???

  3. Hi, take it easy you'll be ok.The feelings and sensations you

expierence are distressing and uncomfortable but not dangerous.

Sounds like you are suffering from an Anxiety Disorder.I've been

through this.Locate a Psychiatrist tell him problem he'll put you

on Prozac or another antidep. Then get to see a Cognitive Behavior

Therapist. The Prozac should take about three week's to kick-in.

    Please follow-up with Therapy.Good Luck

  4. Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.

But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!

Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....

  5. Get one of those noise machines at Walmart. (less than $20)  It has different noises, like ocean, rain, brook etc;.  Any of those will help calm you down.

Also, stay away from exercise and caffine etc; prior to bedtime.

  6. Play soothing relaxing music like the sounds of the ocean and stuff. I've been dealing with the same thing for awhile and I find that those and a nice long HOT bath can help. I also see someone and take Xanax as well as Ambien to help me deal with these things. I know it can be hard to both deal with and admit that you have. I hardly talk to people for fear of being judged yet I answer all kinds of questions on here and get credit for doing it. So I know that I'm not totally crazy. I may feel like it sometimes though. Anxiety sucks there's no other way to put it. But I find the music and meds to be helpful for me so I hope you find the same satisfaction from it.

    Good luck
