  1. No you are not being tight. In England they get a decent wage in the first place (anything over £5 -around $9 for the yanks out there) so they are getting a decent wage in the first place for not doing a lot. Secondly when you tip a lot of the time it goes into a pot that is shared about.

But my main consideration is- do they deserve a tip? were they friendly and happy and made you feel comfortable? Did they go out of their way? If yes then yeah maybe a tip is deserved but if they just did they job then no way! same as taxi drivers, if you just sit there saying nothing the whole journey your getting nothing extra then what the trip costs.

So be tight.... make people earn your money! after all do you get tipped for doing your job correctly!?

  2. YES!

just remebr they get paid $3.00 per hour and rely on tips, i was a server when I was younger and if anyone left a bad tip we all remembered, word to the wise don't go back to a restaurant where you have tipped poorly in the past, trust me they remember you...go see the movie "waiting"

  3. If you have received good service in either a restaurant or in a bar and you do not leave a tip then yes I would say you are being tight. I used towork in a whetherspoons pub and generally speaking there was one person serving food to every customer it was hard work especially at weekends, and although this was my job I got paid the minimum wage and when you did not receive a tip I certainly remebered those people.

However when you are behind the bar if you tip the person who served you chances are they will remeber you and you will get served quickly the next time around.

  4. I hate leaving tips too, cos they expect it, suppose we are both seen as a tight a*s*

  5. yes you are. tips are a part of going out to eat and getting good service. Service employees remember you if you leave crappy tip and they spread the word. So if you are going to constantly leave bad tips i advise you go to different restaurants each time and not the same all the time. Remember.... servers handle your food and you don't always see what they are doing to it!!!  :o)

  6. Yes.

Servers make very little, tips help out a lot. Specially when they give you great service.

Put yourself in their shoes. Wouldn't it be nice if your customers show a little appreciation for your hard work?
