i dont hate math, it is just I'm not good at it. But I love computers and i want to be a computer programmer.. But the question is can i make it?

coz i don't want to waste the money of my parents if i will just fail it,

so anyone give me some tips based on your experiences, is Math in C.S really hard? or should I take I.T.

Someone told me that i can also study IT but Major in programming, is it true?

I'm sorry if i have many questions and sorry for my grammar, I hope you will understand my questions.

  1. Depending on the school, you may have to take a substantial amount of mathematics.  At some of the top computer science programs in the US, you will be expected to take four or five semesters' worth.  Computer science started as a discipline in applied math, and pursuing it seriously means approaching problems with mathematical rigor.

Even once you leave school, you may be expected to have facility in mathematics.  To program graphics, you will need to know linear algebra and trigonometry.  To write games, you will need to have good knowledge of physics.  Programmers in my job work a lot with graph theory, a subset of topology.

It is possible to become a successful programmer without a good basis in mathematics, but you will find your options very limited.  If you are passionate about programming, I am sure you will find a way to work through the necessary mathematics.

Best of luck in your studies.

  2. I think you only need to take three courses of math. All of them are passable. And don't quit just because something is hard. Do it because you love it.

  3. At the college I got my CS degree from you had to get a minor in Math and Physics to get your major in CS.

Math requirements included 3 quarters of Calculus, Linear Algebra (harder than it sounds), Statistics, among other high level classes like Foundations (prove 1+1 is really 2 type stuff  it is like a 10 step proof, then you get the hard ones.)

I am good at Math really, but it was pretty hard stuff.  I passed.  You will have friends in college that can help you learn.  Do not do it if math makes you ill or something.  But you can pass the classes if you study hard.  Math is either right or wrong.  do it the right way and you get the right answer.

I think you can do it, but I am not going to lie to you and say the math is easy.

Also BSCS: Bachelors of Science in Computer Science is the degree I am talking about.

The same school had a degree BACS: Bachelors of Arts in Computer Science.  WAY less math, way less physics.  but after you graduate, you can not expect the same pay that the BSCS people are getting either unless you have a rare specialty.  Usability or GUI interface etc for example.  That would be a BACS type job.  Or even possibly computer animation and or database maintenance type jobs.
