I am a high school Junior and I live in NY and will be taking regents...My Chemistry teacher really has it in for me...

Everyone in my class HATES him...

My 2ND period consist of students cursing him out..lol

He is my second class for the day around 7:30 am and I always show up to class on time and I do my work..but His teaching skills are HORRIBLE ...

Sometimes I feel like he's confused about his own d**n lesson..He contradicts most everything he says and has some of the worst spelling skills and grammar I have ever seen and heard and his handwriting is fairly legible. He insist on giving test every week even with out fully explaining the lesson and has been giving quizzes everyday. He teaches something and If someone says they don't understand he just repeats whatever he said before...Granted we don't have the best students.I almost hate everything about him...

So what should I do...

I can't change him as a teacher and the highest grade he gave in the class was a 65....

I'm a junior and this has brought my communicative average down a couple points that will be going in my college transcripts......

I only have a 3.0 GPA and it is very frustrating...

  1. It is possible from what you described, that this teacher is not properly credentialed to teach the class.  As unbelievable as it might sound, there are thousands of teachers in the U.S. that do not have credentials in the subject that they teach, or in any subject, for that matter.

The No Child Left Behind Act is trying to address this, as well as other problems in public education.

As far as what can you do about your situation, if you are truly concerened about improving your overall GPA (which would be your cumulative GPA...not your communicative GPA), you could consider the following suggestions:

    1.  Put in extra effort on your own in order to get a better understanding of the subject matter (which would include reading in fine detail, your chemistry textbook).

    2.  Even though you say that you "hate" this teacher, you could tell him that you are trying to bring your grade up and you could ask him if he has any suggestions on what you could work on that might help improve your understanding of the subject.

    3. You could join or form a study group.

    4. You could try to get tutoring help.  Many high schools have free tutoring on campus.

    5.  You could have your parent help you in this area by hiring a private tutor for you to work with.

    6. You could retake this class during summer school.  When you do this, the higher grade that you get can be substituted for the 65% that it sounds like you might end up with (check with your counselor first, just make sure that your school allows this).

  2. Just ignore him, education is most important.

  3. speaking from experience here.  The best thing for you to do with this teacher or anyone else for that matter in this situation is to do this.  Act like you like him and get on his side.  For the learning part you need to get into your book and rely less on him for actually learning the material.  Ask him questions when he is at his desk not lecturing.  He will be happy that you are asking questions.   When he answers like he does just act like you understand how he explained it and compliment him on this some times, like " i try to read the book but it makes way more sense when you explain this subject.  If you keep reading your book and learning on your own, then you will really improve your test scores and your teacher will think that it is his excellent explaining that is leading to your improvement in the course.  From that point on he will give you better grades just for the fact that he feels your improving because of him and he will feel good when you make great marks.  I know you are young and this is a sort of manipulation of your teacher but it works and telling your teacher how much he sucks or how bad he is at teaching will never get them to give you better grades.  good luck!

  4. Just tell him '' i hate you''.
