I hate my birth control pill and am afraid that all of them will be like this...?

I have been taking Yaz for a month and a week or so and I HATE it!

I have already put on a little bit of weight, it's making my skin break out, I'm experiencing mood swings, my b***s are huge and they're achey all of the time. In fact, I can't even sleep on my b***s anymore... It kind of keeps me up at night, to be honest. That and I believe it's causing depression and anxiety.

I'm so scared that all birth control pills are just going to be the same. I don't want to get pregnant, but I don't want to take these pills?

I talked about non hormonal options with a gynocologist and she really didn't want to put me on anything but birth control.

I tried Nuvaring, but I didn't stick with it.

  1. My question is are you on the pill for regulating your period or is it actually for birth control? If it's for the first you should discuss other options. If it's for the later there are so many options out there I don't see why your doc wont explore these other options. Remember you pay your doctor bills and you have the best knowledge about your own body. All bc has its down  sides but it's your decision which your willing to live with.

  2. Non hormonal birth control is still birth control.

I wouldn't trust my doctor is she was forcing hormonal birth control on me.

Talk to her about the copper IUD (the plastic one has hormones, the copper one doesn't and lasts 2 times as long), if she refuses, find a new OBGYN because she obviously doesn't care about how it's making you feel.

  3. I would try another pill.  OrthoTricyclen Lo supposedly doesn't have the same side effects.  I know alot of people who love it.  There is also the Depo Provera shot you get every 3 months.

If your OBGYN won't discuss any other options with you, you need to look at the option of finding another doctor.

  4. my experience is that the depo shot makes you gain weight, the patch can cause blood clots, nuva ring falls out, like you said YAZ has way to much hormone. the one pill i actually stuck with before TTC and getting pregnant was Yasmin the original Yaz the old version has less hormone and less side effects and my doctor recommends that over everything else. Good luck i have also tried Necon and Loestrin 24 and those were both fine also. i know as soon as my baby is born however i am going back on Yasmin

  5. yaz is very different than other hormonal pills out there.  however, i too am one of those people hormonal things just don't agree with.  even though i'm married, my dr. still looked at me crazy when i asked for a diaphragm.  she too wanted to put me on pills.

you can try a copper iud if you really, really don't want to have children, or a diaphragm (which i'm pretty happy with overall, but... well, that would be tmi.  but for most people, i think it's pretty good)

but yeah, hormones aren't for everyone, and some doctors (even women) just gloss over it.  one of my doctors put me on nuvaring and promised me it would cure what ailed me.  she REFUSED to discuss any other non hormonal option (i was unmarried at the time).  it was pills or condoms. (which she didn't even suggest.  her ONLY suggestion was more pills)

  6. i was on seasonale for a while.  it's where you only have a period every 3 months.  I loved it! and had no problems with it at all.

After I have the baby though i'm going to look into getting the IUD.

if i were you I would do some research of your own on different birth control options.  A lot of my friends are on the depo shot too.

  7. All pills are different. Yaz simply has to much hormone. Talk to your doctor about other options. The patch or mireana ( i think that is how it is  spelled) the IUD is a good option if you don't want children for up to 5 years. It is placed in in one visit, and can last for 5 years. Wonderful option if you don't want the hormone spikes of the pill.
