  1. Play at least 30 minutes a day.  40 to 60 would be even better.  Your mom would be happy; and later in life, you will also be glad you did.  Thus way there are no losers.   Just keep playing the piano.

  2. If you hate it, then you won't learn properly. In other words: A complete waste of time that could have been spent on far more interesting things.

You can quit and tell your mom to take lessons herself and stop living through you, or (preferably) stop spending too much time on things that don't interest you. In other words,  start with cutting down the practicing of your piano homework to 20 or 15 minutes a day, and follow each such session with 10 minutes or more of practicing something on the piano that you do care about. The internet is a goldmine of information: Try to find notes for songs or short snippets you think would be awesome to be able to play. If you have problems finding that by plain websearches, don't hesitate to join some fun music-/piano-focused forums and ask around and see if anyone can help you.

I've been in your shoes. I took three years of piano as a kid even though I wanted to do something more interesting after the first year (like the drums, which was my first choice but my mom emotionally blackmailed me into taking piano) because of my mom guilt-tripping me into another year and yet another year. I value the fact that I did play the piano the first year I took it, and I'm now a decade later going to pick it up again. However, the two following years of piano lessons were a complete waste of  time and money. I did not significantly advance in skills thanks to how much I resented being forced to take them.

Another tip: Wasting your parent's money doing something you hate is even worse than making your parents sad, as it not only hurts them, but  you too. This is why it's important you either let yourself change your attitude towards it by doing the more fun things you can do with a piano (don't hesitate to ask Yahoo Questions what fun stuff you can do with a piano - and do elaborate on your interests in general), or (if you find yourself unable to even after trying for a month or two) quit and spend your valuable time and their money on something that contributes to your future more. Perhaps you'd be more into other arts? Perhaps sports? Sky's the limit (or not - especially if you get into astronomy).

By the way, if your mom complains  when you play more modern and less "classy" pieces (perhaps something 'oldskool' like Mario Brothers music) do not hesitate to point out that it's your time and effort, and as you're still doing your piano homework (even though a little less  each day than before) before your own pet projects, she can either stop forcing you to take the lessons (and take them herself) or let you actually have fun while doing what you need to do.

Seriously, this cannot be said enough: It won't be easy, but if the efforts are to be good enough in the long run, it's vital you enjoy yourself during at least some parts of the process.

  3. Ask here if you can play an instrumnet that "fits your interests better"

Honestly though, 30 minutes a day in not that long; doing something consistently like that will help you learn to focus and succeed at other things as well

  4. just sit back and listen to the music... it's not something you just do...it makes art...listen to it and what story is it telling? think about it....you might grow to love it...try it out...at first you might think this is stupid what im telling you...but please try it out....you may end up liking it

  5. keep playing and learn it good it will transfer to other intruments ie guitar then you can be a big rock star or when 40 something dont let anyone know you can play then your friends will be amazed
