I hate to bring this up, but is anyone STILL struggling to get back on their feet ever since Katrina?

It's been 3 yrs., & I'm struggling like MAD crazy! I feel like that destroyed my WHOLE life. It feels like my life can't be repaired. I'm in lots of debt b/c of that disaster, & debt collectors don't care. It's hard for me to find a job, even with a degree, because no one wants to hire me because of my Tourette's.

Do you have any advice for me?

  1. I wish you the best of luck. I went through Hurricane Rita and lost everything I owned. I was not even here before it hit to protect anything, I work for an ambulance company and I was there (in New Orleans) doing rescue and recovery. Many people lost a lot on the Gulf Coast that year. It has been hard. Have you applied for disability because of you Tourettes? It was very hard for Rita victims afterward to get any help because everyone was so fixed on the damage of Katrina. At least you people know you went through a disaster. My entire roof blew off my house and absolutely nothing was left, I wasn't able to return for a week so everything sat rotting further until then. FEMA never paid a penny for my hotel room for 3 months, that hurts financially- our shelters were full with people from other storms and we had no where to go. However you're life can be repaired just as most other peoples have- you just can't rely on anyone to repair it but you.

  2. Way TOO many are still suffering. Help thy neighbor.

  3. My brother is still missing, we will probably never see him again.  Do not give up.  I don't know how bad your tourette symptoms are, perhaps you could apply for disability payments, SSI, bankruptcy.  Hang in there!

  4. I'm not, thank God and no one i know is. I know people who have struggled mentally afterwards than financially. Idk what type of job you desire but since katrina, there have been alot of jobs in retail and retaurants but im only 19 so this may not help. I suggest you research an organization that caters to people struggling after the storm, they'll provide food etc.

  5. You definately are not allow in your struggles, many people are still feeling the effects of the storm. Just try to keep a positive attitude and keep try to move forward. Perhaps try a job that is maybe not in your chosen field until something better comes along. Best of luck to you.
