I have 07 Pontiac vibe and want to put a class 1 hitch on it to tow a pop up camper is it ok?

The tongue weight of the camper is 235# Should I put a class 2 reciever on it since a class 1 is only rated for 200#s and the class 2 is rated for 300#s?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news.

Your Vibe has a maximum towing capacity of 1500 pounds.  Most pop-up trailers weigh more than this unloaded.  Load the trailer and your Vibe with passengers and camping gear and you will be way overweight.

You would be asking for problems.  These problems would not be covered by the factory warranty.

To be safe go with a class 2 but honestly a class 3 or 4 would come in handy a hole lot more
