I just lost 50lbs in the last 6 months and am looking for a good sport to help keep me healthy. I picked swimming in the winter and track for the spring. I work out 3 times a week with a personal trainer doing cardio/weights. I have a pool also. I am a senior and I have never done swimming on a team before but I have had a pool my entire life. So would you recommend I go out and swim as much as I can? or should I do specific drills? What would help me on the swim team as much as possible? I am not sure if it is try outs or not but I am fairly sure it is open.

  1. In college I was a life guard.  I find that walking as much as possible whether then riding, keeps me fit better then anything else.  I also do jumping jacks for flexibility.   But I believe to stay fit for a team, you need to stay in the water.  Do laps as much as possible.  They called me a wale in school.

  2. Keep going and do what u do.

  3. pick your favourite stroke and concentrate on that. go swimming around 3 times a week and do mostly work on that stroke, but change a bit. make sure your diving and turns are pretty good as well. spend around 45 mins per sessions (3 times a week, so you will get about 20 sessions done before the swim off) if you find after a few weeks this is too much and you feel tired cut it back. your chances will half if you over work yourself. good luck!!
