I've been living in Sydney for 1 month now, for an internship, and it finishes in the end of June. After that i will have 10 days to travel around. I would like to visit the famous beaches and lakes of the North, and the ayers rock, as well. Do you think it is possible? Do you have any advices about place i should visit instead? Thanks!!

  1. It'll take a while to get to Uluru from Sydney so if you're going there, dedicate the enitre 10 days and make stops on the way. I'm from Melbourne so of course I'd say come here.. but really with only 10 days and being winter, I'd go upto Queensland.. The Whitsundays, Great Barrier Reef, that sort of thing.

    Have a look here...

    www.whitsundaytourism.com

    www.great-barrier-reef.com

    www.queenslandholidays.com.au

Welcome to Australia and have a great time!

  2. Defiantly go up to Cairns and Port Douglas you wont regret it and have a look at the ever amazing Great Barrier Reef also  might wanna do a little tour of the Daintree forest and River absolutely gorgeous.

Hamilton Island is beautiful also but that's more for is you wanna relax by the pool with a cocktail and read.

You could also do Gold Coast and check out our famous theme parks witch are great.

But of all I would really recommend Cairns and Port Douglas even Mossman.

  4. In June, it will be quite cold anywhere but the tropics. They have beautiful beaches up there but no surf - the beaches are too protected by the Great Barrier Reef for decent surf to form.

You could spend a couple of days on the Gold Coast where there is plenty of night life, theme parks and miles of fantastic surf beaches. It will be cool, but not too cold to swim as the water temperature will still be 21C or so. The Gold Coast is close to Brisbane and you can fly to either and take a bus or train to the other.

You could go Bowen (in the tropics) which is close to Airlie Beach, the gateway to the beautiful Whitsunday Islands and the Barrier Reef. Visit Cairns in the far north  and from there tour to the tropical rainforests and the Outer Reef. Cairns has nothing much in the way of beaches - Bowen is better for those.

Uluru (Ayers Rock) is a long way from anywhere. Uluru is now managed by its traditional owners and they would prefer that you do not climb the rock and although it is still possible to climb it, it is generally considered culturally insensitive to do so. You can fly there from either Sydney or Cairns.

A possible itinerary could be: fly from Sydney to Uluru/Alice Springs (Uluru is 5 or so hours from Alice Springs by car or bus): fly from Uluru/Alice Springs to Cairns and then tour to the Outer Reef and/or the rainforests: fly from Cairns to Bowen then tour to the Whitsundays: fly from Bowen to Brisbane: bus or train to Gold Coast (it's only an hour or so): fly from Gold Coast back to Sydney. You could also go in the other direction.

10 days isn't very long to do all of the above though it is possible if you don't mind being on the go most of the time. You could omit the Gold Coast and/or Bowen if you would prefer to do less moving around.

  5. I'm not sure if you'll be able to see everything, b/c it's a pretty big place to see in 10 days, but the Great Barrier Reef, Ayers Rock, the Sydney Opera House are all tops on the list of places to see.

Try to go to a wildlife sanctuary or something too, like Steve Irwin's zoo and check out some koalas :)
