I have 1416 unread messages in my inbox. what should i do?

use some spam filter.

It would help if you said what email client you are using.  I use Thunderbird, but this works for Outlook too.

Find the emails that are from your friends and write filters to move them to another directory.  like if my friend was [e-mail], make a filter that says "When messages arrive, if the sender is [e-mail] move it to the "Friends" folder.

Do this for each of your friends and family and business contacts, then whatever is left will be suspect.  

Scan through them and look for words that give them away as spams, like "replicas" and "c1alis"  you can either "search" for them and delete them from your inbox, or you can write filters to auto delete them when they arrive.

Filters are your friend.
