I am going to have 1600 watts rms installed into my car a week from today, i am going to have an 2 channel amp that puts out 500 watts rms to each channel and a 600 watt 2 channel that puts out 300 watts rms to each channel. I have 4 gauge wire going from the battery to the trunk. I wont have my 0 gauge wire untill a week or two after i have my subs and amps installed. How will having 4 gauge wire ran to my trunk affect my car if i only use 4 gauge wire for, at the most, two weeks? will it hurt my amps or subs? i know i need 0 gauge wire and im getting it, i just want to know if i can just use the 4 gauge wire i have now for a week or two. thanks for the help.

  1. I think the wire will just melt but i'm no expert

  2. It's safe, but the voltage to te amp will be low and vary everytime you hit a base note. Having tight connections is more important that the wire gauge.

  3. My BF has 4 running to his Kicker 1200 watt amp, and he seems to be okay with it. I have a 2500 watt Kicker amp which runs 0. As far as I know, you can run the 4, but I wouldn't try and "push it". What you might get is a low humming noise, mostly because you don't have enough power draw. This may also effect your battery because its trying to draw so much from a smaller source. If anything, you'll blow fuses in your amps if the power draw changes to where it will hurt the amps.
