I have 2 10" Audiobahn subs,how bad are thier leaky boxes effecting sound quality and loudness???

they each are in (approximately) 12"Lx12"Wx6" deep boxes...both of the boxes have leaky places.not too bad but you can feel the air coming out when the subs are playing.How bad is this effecting how loud they get??do you think I should invest in some better boxes or maybe even a ported box to make them hit harder/louder??

ok well basically the quality of your box makes a big difference when it comes to how good your woofers will sound.  Basically with a box thats not sealed properly like yours, is not going to make a noticable difference in the sound of the woofers.  Everyone thinks just because they put their woofers in a ported box it will make them hit harder.  That is not the case and sometimes when you put a woofer in a ported box that shouldnt calls for a sealed box, the woofer can get to much air and when its hitting it will flex to much and eventually pop.  In your case with the audioban woofer.  Out of my years of installing car audio I noticed that those woofers sound best in a ported box.  What it will do for you is give you more bass with less wattage from your amp.  What I would suggest though is having a proffesional adjust your amp the right way if your going to put them in a ported box, so that you dont pop them.  Hope that helps

It's hard to tell how much it will effect sound quality. Is the box home made with visable holes? Is it a cheaply made storebought box? It should be made with atleast 3/4 MDF wood. Was silicone used to help seal the inside?

A subwoofer is only as good as the box that it's in.

If you like loud bass kicks (rap type) and not really looking for the full range of bass (rock) ported is the way to go. If you are looking for a smooth fullrange the sealed.
