I have 2 12in sony xplod already in a sub box. what is best way to connect them to my home stereo?

i want to connect these to 12 in subs to my boombox to give it extra bass. or i want to connect them to a surround sound system.

You will have to get an external amplifier that can withhold the rms those subs need. Dont hook them up to your boombox you'll only blow the amp in it.

Its not a good idea all together to do this.

These subs were not designed for home use.

Im not an expert but it has something to do with ohms and your home stereo equiptment is not up for the challenge.

There are a few things to find out before you just hook it up...

1.  Do you have an amp?  

       a. Yes, a car amplifier....get an ac/dc converter to supply the 12v to the amp.  

       b. Yes, my surround receiver has one....what kind of outputs does it have?  RCA or speaker wire?  

              i. RCA wire...get an RCA cable and strip the insulation to make a connector between the amp and the box.

              ii. speaker wire...just hook it up directly

       c. No, no amp....you'll need one.  Home stereos just can't put out the power needed for those subs.

2.  Do you have a crossover?

       a. Yes, on the subs....you're good to go

       b. Yes, on the surround sound receiver/amp.....make sure only low frequencies are going to the subs, anything else will cause noise and distortion.

       c. No...might want to get some, it helps keep unwanted frequencies outta your bass

3  Can I hook it to a boom box?

       a. Sure, but I wouldn't recommend it.  The bass would overpower the mids and highs.
