  1. Well, its necessary to know whether its in the south or in the north... If your land is in the north, go for field crops, such as peanuts, ragi(Eleucine coracana), or other minor millets. If its in the south, you would be situated on the western ghats, which means heavy rains and cool climate.. Coffee has been the traditional crop in these areas. But the market is down these days... Go for large scale cultivation of horticultural crops that include flowers (roses, zerbera, anthuriums), pepper, fruits (mango, sapota, banana), coconut.... Practice step farming, i.e. growing crops of different heights in stages such that each stage doesnt shadow the other. this ensures efficient use of sunlight, water and soil nutrition.

  2. This topic is very nice. Though my major is about agriuclture in China, I do not know how to arrange a farm well. Get all idear from all image if i am the farm how will i plan?( in fact i do not know the eactly position of your farm, their i know just a little of local climate.

    1)  planting not too much kind of plant, just the one which will profit any rightnow time. This way just according you have enough workers, and you can change from one crop to another crop more easy.

    2) keep the land change not too much, any plant different kind of crop and trees in different season, any keep all of it more native and try to earn money by making more tourist visiting your farm, ( this also depand on that the farm is not too far from lots of people , just like near the city)

The policy of India is great different from China, and my idear is also very limited.

  3. Pigs and or chickens are a good second crop.

  4. I hope you mean abundant ( large quantities) of water. If it has trees then you will have share of atleast 20meter around it. So you can not grow many tropical crops in that area. Note down the shade area and put pegs in that area. Grow some cold hardy grasses or clovers and use it to feed sheep/goats etc by fencing it off. Rest of the area where there is sun you can pretty much grow either vegetables or flowers depending on what is needed by the markets. Go to your local agriculture center and select the right types of plants. Make sure you use add fertilizer. If you do all these things smartly then you can make money and use the land efficiently. But if you do not have time to maintain and manage the land put is trees for timber. This is a long term investment that you can sell for your retirement.

  5. You can get a report from state and national demand for agricutural product, from the its department of mantralaya that will help you to choose the best to be cultivated. And also u can look for the international export demand for the same to be easy and to be cultivated.  Now a day JETROFA is more in demand as it has fuel particle to run the vehicle and it is belived to be the future vehicle fuel as alternative to run heavy vehicle.

  6. you cant do much but grow small amounts of corn every year

  7. Karnataka is a state which has three main types of soil: Black, red and laterite. To get rid of the trees you could get an agricultural warrant to burn them down for manure. Then you can get a license to grow crops there(from a local government or judicial centre).

Black soil- cotton, sugarcane, mango, wheat,

Red- ragi, oilseeds, mango, millets, bajra, jowar

    Laterite- coconuts, grasses, shrubs

  8. Visit www.ciks.org

You may get some ideas. They are into organic farmic, reclamation etc.

  9. The key is that abandoned water facility.  Do whatever you need to get it back to working.  Evaluate what crops will sell well with the market you have available.  If you can make money on the mango, coconut, and arecnut trees, you have a good start.  Plant the crops that will sell best and will fit in around your trees.  You are the only one who can determine this.  With the water available your most profit will come from cropping in the off season.  The demand and prices will be much higher at that time.

  10. Here are some ideas:

Grow a large garden with many vegetables

Grow a fruit farm with many different kinds of fruit

Grow crops of 1 kinds (wheat, barley, corn, etc)

Renovate the land so farmers can drop off their animals at your place and you can look after them for you. Example: $195 per cow per month, $235 per horse per month, $55 per chicken per month, etc. Kinda like a boarding school, but if the farmer have too much animals or not feeling well, they can drop it off at your "mini-farm" for a monthly rate.

Transform the land into a christmas tree farm, when the trees are grown sell them at christmas time (customers can cut down their own tree to avoid wasting any) for about $110 per tree.

You can day dream. Many people found their dream farm by day dreaming.

  11. Western Karnataka? Where exactly is it?

Well you say there is abundant water, is there moderate sun shine also. In which case i think you can try Horticulture.

You may try flowers, such as Rose or any other flowers which are being exported in large quantities now. Even fragrant jasmine is a posibility. Large quantities of jasmine flowers are being exported from Southern Tamilnadu.

  12. Try Orchids, in your parts they have grown orchids and earned more than a lakh in 1200 sqft(shadenet size). check the link.

  13. Did you ask this question recently? It seems there is probably a lot of non-agriculture in your area, like manufacturing.

    1) Find restaurants and markets and ask what they need. Grow what they ask for and you don't have to find a market.

    2) Make a tea garden if close to a high population. People love to have a drink and snack in a nice environment, and water makes it more pleasant, with fish and birds.

    3) Got water? Grow fish like Koi and water plants to eat and for beauty.

    4) Find a special crop for a special market that no one is doing yet.
