Question:

I have 2 Yahoo 360 profiles, if I delete them and start over, will it affect my Y/A profile and points

On one of them I can't change the name that shows up on the public profile no matter what I do, and the other one absolutely refuses to save any pic I try save as the main picture. It's sooo FRUSTRATING!!!

My main goal of all this is to change my Y/A picture from my avatar to something I can upload. I need advice on how to do that too.

Thank you!

  1. Since the only way to completely delete a 360 space is to completely delete a Yahoo account, yes, it will affect your Y/A profile and points. You should only be using one account for Y/A anyway, but if that Y/A service is connected to a Yahoo account that you delete completely, then you will no longer be able to use Y/A through that deleted account. You would have to start over.

NOTE: Getting a new 360 space will not make you immune from further problems. See http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-4D4zxsg6f... for more information about 360 glitches.

Y!360 Name problem - if you are trying to change your name, then you should be able to do so. However, you have to make sure that all fields on that Basic Info settings page are filled in properly - particularly ones with a red asterisk. You have to provide a first AND last name (fake or otherwise). You have to provide either an age OR birth date. Also, make sure to check how other people view your page by clicking on the drop down menu "Preview as seen by" at the top right of your 360 "My Page". Choose a permission group and click the "Go" button.

Y!360 image as your Y/A picture - You can only do this for the 360 space that is associated with the account that you use for answers. If you are doing this correctly, we should not see your Yahoo! Avatar on Y/A (as we do now). The personal profile module in 360 is buggy, so don't try to mess with it too much. Just try to get an image in any spot that you can choose as the primary one, then move on. If you can't do that, then you can't use a 360 image as your Y/A picture on this account:

Make sure a JPEG formatted photo (with .jpg, .jpeg, .jpe extension) under 5MB is saved to your hard drive.

    - Click your "My Page" link at the top

    - Click "Edit Profile Photos" over the empty picture frame

    - Click "Browse" and upload photo into an empty field. Then click one "use as primary" radio button on the right before saving (if you've uploaded more than one image).

You can't upload more than 4 profile pictures (this includes an avatar). Make sure that you are following the 360 Personal Photo guidelines here: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/360/gui...  .

Then, come back to Yahoo! Answers.

    - Make sure that it is the same Yahoo ID that you used for 360.

    - Click the "My Profile" link to the upper right of this Yahoo! Answers page, then click "Edit My Info" in the top left box on the Answers profile page.

    - Scroll down to the image section and check the option of showing the 360 picture. Click Preview and then the OK button. Then, WAIT.

NOTE: The image may not show up right away in Y/A, as it sometimes take days (and for some weeks) for the system to catch up. So, in the meantime, you will be without any picture on Y/A (a gray unisex icon) or an old 360 image. Just go through the above process and let your picture stay that way until the system makes your 360 image appear. If you don't want to wait, then just use a Yahoo! Avatar (http://avatars.yahoo.com ) and forget about using the 360 image.

Also, some people never see an image show up. You can always post a bug report (or piggyback on other's bug reports) on the issue at the Y/A forum: http://suggestions.yahoo.com/?prop=answe... . This link between Y/A and Y!360 has been buggy for years.

  2. [note: i just reread your question and was wondering why you needed to change the name on your main 360 profile - it never appears here. mine doesn't. also, i was able to change the name that appeared on my 360 profile under "settings" but it didn't change the "short URL" that contained my main account username. but i don't really mind as i don't have a link from my YA account to my 360 account anyways. the only "link" is that in my YA profile i edited it to use the picture from my 360 profile.]

i don't believe so. i had a yahoo mail account under one name for years. then a few months ago i "discovered" YA and had to sign in using my main yahoo account then create a YA profile, so i did. i didn't have a 360 account yet. while editing my yahoo answers profile i noticed that i could use a picture from my yahoo 360 profile, so i went and created a yahoo 360 profile, uploaded some pictures, picked a default, then came back to my YA profile and hooked it up. took about 24 hours for my image to actually appear in YA.

if you want, you can test it by setting up a new main yahoo account, creating another YA profile and a couple of 360 profiles under that account name. then come back to YA under that new main account name and your new YA profile and answer a question or two. then go delete your new account's 360 profiles, create a new one (under the same overall yahoo account name), and then check to ensure that your YA profile still exists and has the extra points you gained by answering a couple of questions. if it all works out ok, then you'll know...

make sense? email me if you have any questions...
