Can be as little as a week before a change is needed. Is there a simple remedy for this?

  1. 40W bulbs come in a variety of quality levels. The inexpensive ones are just that - cheap.

Getting a good-quality bulb is one answer. Another possibility is to change from incandescent bulbs to fluorescent ones.

    Good luck.

  2. I would guess that you are using (3) 40watt  120 amp bulbs- look for bulbs that are rated 40 watt 130amps. Your power may be subject to surges that would cause the quick burnouts. Sometimes garage door opener bulbs or ceiling fan bulbs will also work because they will stand vibration and power surges. Good luck.

  3. I think Plumber is on to it with vibration.

If it is vibration try an oven bulb, they handle heat and vibration better than normal bulbs.

  4. Oh come on guys.

    FIRST:

What does it say on the fixture that the max bulb wattage can be?

You are currently drawing 120 watts through the fixture. There ARE fixtures that will handle that much heat, however that are not the garden variety ones.

I would simply replace the bulbs with 3 each 25 watt bulbs. THis will reduce the heat build up and should solve the problem.

  5. Sounds to me like you are either burning them out because of high temp. or vibration. If the inside of the fixture gets too hot, they will burn out quick. This happens inside poor quality fixtures. If the kids are bouncing on the floor above this fixture, this can cause early failure also. Hope this helps.

  6. Buy a cheap 600 watt dimmer and never put lights on full bright and the bulbs will last for a very long time.

  7. Call a licensed electrician. You prolly have a negative lead issue.
