My question: I went to get a prescription today and they said they can only use one of the cards (even though I have 2 diff policies on my kids) Is this correct - or did they make a mistake?

  1. I am really not sure about prescription coverage but from a medical office standpoint they should use both cards if they have different ID numbers. The insurance will either use the birthday rule or some other retarded way of determining which one pays first but they should accept both.

  2. First, why do you have two policies?  Do you and your spouse both work and have health insurance?  If so the birthday rule is mandated by federal law as to which is primary coverage for the children.  If you have a second policy for any other reason you are most likely wasting money.

It is common practice for the primary insurer to cover all claims after the deductible and then if any is unpaid you must file a claim with the secondary insurer.  You MAY NOT in any circumstance collect more than the billed amount.  The pharmacy was correct bill one policy and then you must file a claim for any part of the unpaid balance against the second policy.

  3. hello,

if you want read something about health insurance

i just come accross this blog which may help you

  4. It's possible that they have a company policy to only bill one company. You don't say if they are group, individual, one of each or who the insured is...but contact both of the carriers and find out how you would need to submit the bills on your own. IF they co-ordinate benefits, you will need to determine which is primary and which is secondary. If you e-mail me more info, I can help more.....

  5. I am no gonna say I am one hundred sure about it.Besides it really depends on the personal feelings.
