Can I cut my fern trees from 10 feet down to 5 feet without killing them? Will new fronds come out of the cut trunk or not?

  1. How about digging a 5 foot hole beneath them?

  2. it may die, but new plants may emerge from the ground. keep it a little dryer and maybe put it in a pot if you dont want it to get huge. a pot will stunt its growth and keep it small longer

  3. The relevant info in the link I've provided is about 2/3 of the way down.  It seems that most varieties of this type of tree will not sprout from a cut trunk, but some will.  If you can successfully I.D. the species you've got, it'll be a lot easier to figure out whether it will live or not.

  4. yes you can cut them and if want another plant simply use the cut piece .you will have many more.my mom did this, all the time we had ferns every where.
