She continues to do this every few weeks and when she is ready to lay more eggs she throws the other ones out. Is this safe? Should I take her to the vet? She is not in any pain and nothing seems to be wrong with her.

  1. These birds will not hatch the eggs cos they need private nesting corner from peeping eyes etc. Are they in a aviary? if they are, put in more plants or branches to block out the nest from view. Lots of space and privacy is important. When they are nesting, you should minimize your contact with them or even avoid them at all.

  2. I'm betting you either have a young couple that are'nt sexually mature yet or you have two females or it could be an old male and a young female?  Why not call the pet store and ask how to tell a boy from a girl? or take back to have sexed. If the "male" bird is picking on the egglayer you might need to seperate them to slow down the egglaying.

  3. Female birds can lay eggs without a male present. However they are not fertile. If she is throwing her eggs out it could be that you have to small of a nest in her cage. Sometimes when its too small, they dont have room to move around and some eggs accidentally get kicked out. She doesnt need to see a vet for the reason you are talking about because this is somewhat normal. Make sure she has enough cuttle bone in her cage for calcium. Egg laying takes a lot of their calcium reserves. If you dont have a male present, I suggest you remove anything she is using as a nest to prevent her from wanting to lay. Some birds will still use the bottom of the cage or a food bowl.

  4. Laying eggs is very stressful for birds.  Why not give her a break and remove the nest and materials and cover the cage in early evening not uncovering until late morning.  This may stop her laying.

Be sure they have a cuttle bone for the extra calcium it take to produce eggs.

  5. Depending on the male's actually breed or mutation if he is a cross bred bird then he is probably infertile, usually it is the male who is the one not able to fertilize her eggs sense she is laying eggs it isn't her.

  6. They probaly not fertile or alive..

  7. Not all eggs are fertile...even though she has a mate that helps produce them.

  8. May be the finches are both females.. I  cant tell them apart, but watch to see if they are mating , all female birds will lay eggs even if not fertile. She knows the eggs are not hatching and will push them out  to make room for the new ones,. I had two love birds thought one was  female and one male turned out both were  female so we hot lots of eggs. No worry , this is normal for them to lay eggs  on a regular basis.
