ok my first is, I am new to playing hockey ( been a huge fan for a while though) but i was told that my friend who is the goalie for our varisty hockey team, might not come back to my school because its a private school and it costs money and he is good so he tried out for a AAA hockey team and made it and cant pay for both or something? but what is AAA what level of hockey? like minor league or what?

My second question is, like i said i am new to playing hockey, im getting a stick to start practicing with, i wont be practicing on ice yet, so what kind of stick should i get? i like wrist shots more than slapshots and snapshots, so what kind of stick do i need to get that is fairly good and great stick for learners and for on pavement , im 15 5' 5 130 lbs.

  1. It depends, there is AAA in the summer, which is o.k. and there is AAA hockey in states for winter hockey. But, High School hockey is better than AAA hockey depending on the state. Like Minnesota or Michigan.

  2. AAA is the highest level for youth hockey or juniors. and yes hockey teams are mad expensive

when you are new you probably wont be able to tell the difference between brand so anything is probably fine. and if your only going to be playing outside, play with a wood stick at first so it will last a while

  3. for a starter stick you should get either a vaper 40, or maybe just a sherwood wooden stick for street hockey...

    PEACE!

  4. AAA is the greatest hockey teams but there are AA, A. AA is ok its a level lower then AAA and a Level Higher then A.

and if i was gunna play outside i would either get a sherwood, or a wooden stick just in case, but i would try to get a lil cheep stick from like play it again sports or something to get a cheap used composite stick

  5. Don't push it. I would go with Minnesota high school hockey is better, but it's very close. 19,000 at state.

  6. AAA is still amateur, the real answer to the 1st question.  AAA in Michigan is still way better than high school.  In MICH.  high school is limited to like 26 games plus regionals and states, if your school qualifies and wins.  AAA, where MIKE MODANO played (Little Caesars, team and sponsor) play something like an NHL schedule.  There is much more travel involved with AAA as well.   There are a lot of kids from everywhere that come to play in MICH in the AAA leagues, (there are a few teams regionally, midwest , not only MICH) which has a "major" (2nd year players in there age group, for example if you were a 2nd year Bantam you would be playing AAA Bantam Major and a minor is a first year player in that age group) Very rarely do you see a high school player go on to play any where good for that matter. Some high schoolers, like Chris Chelios' kid played at a decent high school (Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook,  in Bloomfield HIlls, MI) and now he is playing in a lower end junior league USHL (INDIANAPOLIS ICE)  Usually those guys in the USHL(the best of the best go on to play college) end there careers there after not getting a shot with a real junior team. Some are able to further there career by playing college, but only a few play Division 1.

Answer to the 2nd question ....if you are not playing ice hockey yet and gonna be practicing in the street or driveway, you should either use a street hockey/roller hockey stick because of there durability.  A wooden stick on pavement or concrete is gonna splinter and break easier and quicker and simply won't last!

    LET'S GO RED WINGS!!!

Keep in  mind Modano went from AAA to Junior's out west (WHL) before being drafted by the Minn North Stars.

Also, some kids go from USHL to higher level junior teams to, but that is extremely rare, otherwise, lie I said they would go on to College, whether it be  Division 1, 2 or 3, just hoping to make it...

  7. for the second question...dont start off oin a nice stick simply because ur playing on pavement..your blade would become the s***s in about 4 games...just go to whatever sports store near u and grab a wooden stick for about 25 bucks that you feel comfortable with...get your basics down

  8. only 5'5 and ur 15

    wow

same here im defense and i like wrist shots more than slapshots
