I actually got a kit that had both the USB Bluetooth dongle and Bluetooth headset, so I can use the headset with my desktop PC or my cell phone.  I can also use the Bluetooth dongle to connect my Palm TX to a PC (if no WiFi is available).  Bluetooth range might be limited to about 30 feet.

Note that to internet connect one laptop through the other, you may need to enable ICS for the internet connection of that laptop, and let Bluetooth IPs get assigned automatically for both laptops.  I had to do that to connect my Palm TX to the internet through the Bluetooth PC.
