Firstly, I REALLY want to do a ballet/contempry dance to "speechless" by michael jackson

But, I'm having trouble with coming up with steps and stuff, everytime I do I get really bored of it or think it's rubbish? any tips?

and, is this natural?

I've been going to a performing arts school for 2 years now and we do some big shows at like disneyland paris, london, spain ect. and I'm NEVER picked for main dances, I'm 16 and I'm always with the 7-11 year olds. I stick out like a sore thumb, and I'm sick and tired of it. I think it's because my dabce teacher doesn't think I'm capale of doing it because I don't have much confidence...well, I wonder why I have little confidence! but like is it natural to not want to do shows anymore? I LOVE doing shows, but I hate it cause I spend loads of money doing these shows and get little out of it!

any suggestions and stuff would be great.

  1. Perhaps it is time to find out why you are always dancing with the younger kids (that's something to ask your artistic director)

Remember when you finish school you are going to competing with 1000s of other dancers.  You may never get to be in the "main" dances.

The point is - you are a dancer.  You may spend your career in the corps.  There is nothing wrong with that - its the corps that holds up a dance company.

  2. try recording yourself so you can watch yourself do the dance.  don't be so self critical on yourself either because you will get frustrated and lower your confidence level.  also, this song needs to be danced from the heart, so feel the music and the words that are in it so close your eyes and listen to the song several times and it will help make the dance better.  sometimes the movements will be visualized in your head when you do this.  it depends on how well you connect with the song tho for this to happen.
