  1. My partner and I have a four year old son. I also watch my three nephews aged 4.5, 2, and 9 quite a bit so I can definately relate to having a lower budget and one car while trying to keep the kids entertained. Some things that I do with them are:

Walk.... A lot. I haven't touched a stroller since my son was 18 months. I would make him walk. I admit the walks took much longer but he got exercise and now that he is four he can walk for miles, meanwhile I see moms pushing five and six year olds in strollers and I do not envy that when using public transit.

Take the bus to nicer parks or beaches in your town. In my city, kids under age 5 are free. Pack a picnic and your kids and go. I spend hours on Saturdays at the beach with my son and sometimes with all four of "my boys".

If going out is not an option, if you have a yard then picnic there. Spread out blankets and have lunch in the grass.

Try to find a cheap activity centre for you and your kids. I have one near my home that is $5.00 per child and they get to play all day, an added bonus is that it is mainly for younger children so all the attractions are age appropriate and unlimited after the entrance fee.

Make arts and crafts with your kids. One of the things I like to do with my son is make seasonal and themed art. He is in daycare so I try to focus on what I can do with him.

"Splurge" at the dollar store and get a bunch of summer toys and activities that are good for both the park and the backyard. Some of these are: bubbles, kites, balls, baseball sets, ball throwing games, sidewalk chalk, squirt guns etc.

If you have a yard, a good investment if you don't have one already is a reasonably priced and good quality pool. We have a decent sized inflateable pool and it cost $100.00. It is tons of fun and shallow enough for the little ones but deep enough for my older nephew to splash around in, at nine he still enjoys it.

Let loos and let your kids build forts, some sheets and chairs and you are ready to go.

Make homemade playdough and let the kids help. There are tons of good recipes online.

Go on nature walks with your kids, biking and hiking trails are good but a scenic neighborhood always works too.

Rent movies from the library for rainy days when the kids can't go outside.

Just some ideas. It'd be cool also to find other mommies to socialize with that have children the same age as yours or close to it so you can unwind and the kids keep each other busy.... It can be a sanity saver at times.

  2. How do you have time to be bored?? I have an almost 1 yr old boy and i'm never bored!

  3. hi try some adventure, just like cooking new foods, surfing new things, making new crockry.. you feel good.

  4. My husband just built them a sandbox out of a wood frame and some plastic sheeting to go underneath like some landscaping sheeting. Or, just use some gravel...whatever you have on hand. We cover it with a tarp and big stones at night so no kittys find their way into it.

It keeps them SO busy! I have a 2 year old and 1 year old and could NOT live without the sandbox.

We take their trucks and trains out there too. My oldest builds track in teh sand box.

When they are done we hold a car wash.

All the toys that were in teh box get hosed off and scrubbed with some dawn. I use this to clean all our toys :))

We also walk to our local park.

We have state parks with trails we walk during the afternoon or evening with hubby. They have fun gardens for the kids and cool lake with observatories all the way around it. We saw a crane the last time we were there!

If they are in my hair when I am trying to prepare breakfast, lunch, or dinner I send them to their cabinet. A little space for jars, spoons and other odds and ends to satisfy their curiosity in the kitchen while letting me finish the task.

My oldest loves to draw so he is often satisfied with a pen and piece of paper.

Make sure you get time out of the house when hubby comes home. You really do need time away from the house. Being cooped up is not good for your mental health or your children.

Make sure you set activities that get you out of your home. I am in teh same boat and schedule things on the weekend/evening so we all get out of the house. The library is the BEST. They have summer packs that are back packs full of books, toys, and dvd/cds of different themes for different ages. We got a choo choo one and a big truck (diggers). They have so much fun with that! And, its free!!

DVDs give me a chance to have down time. I have found that CDs work the same magic so often times I don`t need the dvd player.

Good Luck mama its hard bein` at home with those boys I know!! Email if you need an ear!

  5. You should make a schedule. When I was young, my mom mapped out the days of the week. Monday we went to the playground at the park. Tuesdays & Thursdays we took a nap at home. On Wednesdays we went to the library, and Fridays were treat days (go get ice cream or something..).

  6. u can take them to the park  or play outside

    sing songs and dance

    playdoh

    paint

    draw

    and other activities

  7. look in the local area for playgroups etc.  you can attend so then you can meet with like minded adults and maybe make some friends for youself who have children the same age as yours.

  8. playdoh.

    painting.

    movies.

cooking with them; give them each a task.

    make them help you clean.

teach them how to play uno; the one year old might be young.

invite your friends over; invite there friends over.

    play outside.

    squirt guns.

    water balllons.

    a little blow up pool.

    good luck.

    have fun.

    :]

  9. Over the Weekend by your self buy some cheap crafts, playdoh coloring books and fun stuff like then then  when your home have them do that. if its not to hot out you can walk or ride your bikes up to a public park or also a Library and check out some book. check out you library website there is always free activities for children!

  10. i babysit my siblings all day...it is frustrating. especially when they're under the age of keeping themselves busy!..

i usually set my little sibs up with a movie. in seperate rooms if needed.

if one doesnt want to, i tell him to go outside and play with his older brother.

ive also found that they love it when i make them sit for something bad.....it sounds weird but they always end up sitting longer than i wanted them too, and play with old toys that theyve rediscovered.

    anyways good luck! <3

  11. Wow... someone else in the same situation that I'm in. I have just two kids. A three year old and and 8 month old. My days are very hectic.

I have been able to go into the pool though. This may be a challenge with three, but my three year old does pretty well.

You could go to local parks... Those are fun too.

The age group you have is a little difficult to work with because the four year old wants to run wild and the 1 year old is probably still trying to learn to run without falling.

I'm sure I didn't help much, but I certainly sympathize with you
